Google...and Apple...are evil

So now the FTC is reviewing Apple mobile advertising tactics...

Assuming that "evil" is defined by winner-take-all, monopolist greed, both Google and Apple are on the same path--not that they actually think that they could get there unabated. To think there is an underlying altruism in their businesses is simply naive.

Despite whatever mantras exist, they believe they are better at delivering the benefits of the digital world than anyone else; and, they deserve whatever money and market power they can get their hands on. Now, this is not to say they aren't delivering cool, exciting experiences--because most of the time they are. I just think it is valuable to recognize they have the same underlying profit motive of BP or any other large corporation.

Can we please get off the "magical" hype and see them for who they are? All of us "little people" need to hold them just as accountable for privacy breaches, off-shore working conditions, and monopolistic motives.

'Nuf said.
